Hello. I had to Google her because I've been calling her since our last lunch on January 2020. My son was a student of her at King College Prep in 2011. I just found out she passed away 4 months after our meeting and a month after our phone conversations. I am so sadden by this but her obituary captured her well. I will never forget our talks and lunch dates. RIP she was a phenomenal woman..❤❤

Ms. Freeman was my high school special ed. teacher. I kept in touch with her over the 29 years after graduating high school. I tried callIng her tonight to catch up and learned the hard way of why she didn’t answer her phone. Ms. Freeman, back in high school, taught me to not worry about what others think, that I will learn in my own way. She encouraged me and always had a positive outlook. I really appreciate her sharing her own experiences and challenges. It helped me relate and see that I am not alone. She attended my fathers funeral and my family grew to know how important Ms. Freeman was in my life. I called to tell her I’ve been approved to buy my first home. I had myself a good cry after I realized she won’t be around to applaud and congratulate me. Oh, Ms. Freeman, thank you for being there for me in life, you will be hugely missed.

Karen and I were colleagues and friends at Chicago State University. She was a dedicated, selfless educator who made a lifelong impact upon her students. She and I stayed in touch after her retirement. She would check in on me and I on her. Her passing shocks me. Although I knew she had health concerns. She remained brave and courageous. My deepest condolences to her family and friends. I will miss her and will remain forever grateful for her friendship. You are now home with the Lord, Karen. I knew you were a woman of strong faith. God Bless.

We have been dear friends with Karen for almost 40 years. We attended her doctoral graduation celebration and visited her with our small children around 1990. We have talked weekly over the past years and have shared many meals and church services. We know how much she cherished her parents and her siblings. Several years ago we attended church together in Champaign and went out to lunch with her mother. We called each other brother and sister and I would often leave singing messages on her voicemail.

From the moment I met Karen in 1984 she showed me the type of woman I desired to be. Intelligent, strong and caring.
She taught me in school, and remained my friend for life.
I have always shared stories of Karen with my adult daughters. Given them examples of her personal strength and determination. And told them what an amazing woman she has proven herself to be.
And on top of all of that I don’t believe I have ever met a more caring and genuine person.
The world has lost one of the best.
My sincere condolences to all family and friends.

Remembering My Mom Karen
The love of my mother was so amazing. She exhibited her deepest love for me in a myriad of ways. The extent of her love was limitless and her love had no boundaries. She was always there to nurture me whenever I needed her especially during hospital visits and stays. She was very protective of me. She was always giving of her time and love to me.
We were there for each other no matter what. We laughed together, cried together, and had unforgettable mother and daughter getaways. I will always cherish and remember the phone calls every day and every night before I go to sleep, her text messages, flowers, gifts, movie dates, our shopping trips and our dinners. I will always remember her last words to me “Always remember that my love for you is deep.” “I always want you to be close to me.” and “I love you so much.”
To the family, I want you to know that she is aware that we miss her voice and physical presence, but her soul and spirit is very much alive and will always be with us. Her love and hugs are priceless.
