Richard Dale Funk
"Funky"
Age 73. Called home Monday, January 10, 2011 at Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, following a courageous battle with cancer with his loving family at his side. Born July 1, 1937 in Coal City, IL. Formerly of Morris, living in Shorewood, IL since August 1, 2010. A U.S. Army veteran. Retired from ComEd in 1992. Member of Fraternal Order of Eagles, Matteson Lodge No. 175, A.F. & A.M. and Peace Lutheran Church, Morris. "Funky" enjoyed snow and water skiing, camping, RVing, country dancing, his pets and especially spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a true people person who lived his life to the fullest.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Funk of Shorewood; four sons, Jeffrey (Kelli) Funk of Fox Lake, IL, Justin (Megan) Funk of Shorewood, Christopher (Tonya) Sandvick of Morris and Shane Sandvick of Lisle; four grandchildren, Lauren and Megan Funk, Teagan Sandvick and Jacob Sandvick; one sister, Joan (late Robert) Blaine of Diamond, IL; numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Preceded by his parents, Joseph and Catherine Funk.
At Richard's request, his body has been donated to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois to further medical research. A Celebration of Richard's life will be held Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Grundy County Hospice would be appreciated. Family will receive all friends and relatives from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at:
