Obituary of Robert C. Jones
Robert C. Jones Sr.
“RC”
Robert C. Jones Sr., age 78, of Ottawa, passed away August,26, 2020 with his loving family by his side.
RC, as all his friends call him, was born in Superior and raised in Hines, Wisconsin. Hines is a very small town that had a store, which his parents; Vernon and Lois owned and lived above with their four children, Carol, Les, Bill, and Robert. Lois was the postmistress and operator for their town. Vern not only ran the store, but he also worked on the iron ore docks.
At the age of 18, in 1960, Robert joined the Navy and was stationed in French Morocco. He was able to see the world while in the Navy, he traveled across the equator and went to South Africa and also traveled to Rome, the Suez Canal, and West Africa. While enlisted, he was a boiler tender and a fireman. In September of 2019, he was blessed to be able to go participate in the Honor Flight. We had such a beautiful time, and he was so happy that he was able to participate in something so wonderful.
In 1966, seeking career opportunities, Robert and his best friend, Marvin came to Illinois. In that same year, shortly after relocating, he was working at Western Electric, where he met the love of his life, Deborah. Deborah was a secretary there and he worked in maintenance. They were married on January 28, 1967, a day after the worst blizzard Illinois had seen.
Robert and Deborah resided in West Chicago, and have two children, Robert Jr., and Dawn Marie. They moved to Villa Park, Illinois, and lived there for four years. They then moved to North Aurora, Illinois, and stayed there for 40 years. After Robert was diagnosed with his brain cancer on September 14, 2018, he and Deborah moved in with their daughter and son-in-law in May 0f 2019 so she could be their caregiver.
He was an avid golf player who was out playing every chance he could. Robert loved his family dearly and enjoyed every moment with them.
Surviving are his loving wife of 53 years, Deborah; his children, Robert (Michelle) Jones, Jr. of Yorkville and Dawn (Jason) Joseph of Ottawa; granddaughters, Mallory, Gillian, and Natalie Jones of Yorkville, Gabrielle Joseph of Ottawa, and Destiny Joseph of Ottawa; brothers, Les Jones of Rice Lake, WI. and Bill (Rosalee) Jones of Superior, WI.; sisters, Carol Henderson of Minneapolis MN. and Lois Lundberg of Hayward WI.
