Tom Hawkins

Obituary of Tom Hawkins

Tom Hawkins was born July 3, 1942, in Swan Lake, Mississippi.  He was the second oldest of nine children to the union of the late Mr. Ben and Georgetta Hawkins.  Tom confessed his belief in Christ, and he was baptized at an early age.  In 1956 Tom, along with his family moved to Memphis, Tennessee.  Tom united in holy matrimony to Corine E. Lee in 1963.  They later moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1964 and raised ten children.  He went to trade school to become a machinist.  Tom worked at Sunbeam for 20 plus years before moving on to Paragon Die Casting Company and Recycling Company where he later retired.

Tom was a kind-hearted soul and a friend to everyone that crossed his path.  He loved his family and shared unmeasurable amounts of laughter.  Some of the things he enjoyed in life aside from his family were western movies, blues music, playing instruments, and he was an avid Cubs fan.  Tom loved coaching games at family reunions, fishing, and being a member of the Dirty Old Man Van Club.  In 1992, Tom met his sweetheart Bernadine Moore.  On August 25, 2020, Tom was called home with Bernadine by his side.

Preceding him in death are his brothers, Johnny Hawkins, George Hawkins, and Ben Hawkins; his sisters, Ernestine Davis, Udora Washington, and Pearley Mae Reed.

Survived by his long-term partner Bernadine Moore; his brothers, Jurell Hawkins (Gail), and Bob Hawkins; children, Charles Branch (Nancy), Keith Branch, Tony Hawkins (Robin), Paula Alexander, Mickey Hawkins (Deanna), Chandra Hawkins, Trisha Ewing (Courtney), Tanya Ross (Darrell Sr.), Kiowa Hawkins, and Tijuana Hawkins; seventeen grandkids and six great-grandkids and a host of nieces and nephews.
