Obituary of Roger Gambrel

Roger Kent Gambrel Encompassed by the deep love of his family, who were there by his side, Thursday, January 7, 2010 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. Born in Joliet in 1949. Roger earned a Bachelor of Arts in U.S. History from the University of Illinois and a Master of Arts in Theology from McCormick Seminary in Chicago. Roger was very strong in his faith and was a member of Central Presbyterian Church of New Lenox where Rev. Hope Sibson, his steadfast friend, is Pastor. Roger was an associate librarian, retired after 20 years of dedicated employment from the Joliet Public Library in downtown Joliet, where he made treasured, lifelong friendships. How joyous must it have been for Roger to be reunited with his devoted mother, Bernice Gambrel; father, Leo H. Gambrel; stepsister, Pamela (George) Kosiara; stepbrother, Jeffrey Lindstrom; and nephew, Alex Hart. Roger was a wonderful brother to Paul Gambrel of Austin, TX, and Linda (Jim) Hart. Roger holds a place in the hearts of his three nephews that can never be replaced; Brett Gambrel of Pflugerville, TX, Justin (fiancee, Lauren Adams) Hart and Nick Hart, have always been there for their Uncle Rog, and especially during his most difficult hours. The loving members of Roger's bonus family are left with lasting memories; his compassionate stepmother, Violet Gambrel; stepsister, Debra (John) Hazel; stepbrother, Donald (Lorraine) Lindstrom and their families. Roger's aunts, uncles, and cousins bless the time that they had with him. Thank you to Dr. Orenic and the entire Joliet Area Community Hospice Home priceless staff, for giving Roger and his family a soft place to fall. In keeping with Roger's wishes, there will be no service. Rather than flowers or donations, the family suggests that all who were touched by Roger's life do a good deed, in honor of the memory of a good man. Arrangements by: FRED C.
