Sue was one of the best bosses I ever had. She was a great mentor and role model for all who crossed her path in District 92. I am very sorry to hear she has passed away. By chance I was searching for her on Linkedin, to try to send her message and found her obituary instead.

Dear Craig and Family,
Sue was in incredible Supervisor and Leader. She was so knowledgeable of Special Education Law and issues. She worked tirelessly to provide the best services for each Child, Family and each District. Sue Tierney, ever The Advocate for her Support Services Team with each Administration (certainly with LASEC, District 33C and District 92). It was my good fortune to work with Sue for the last 15 or so years of my work within LASEC, D33C and D92.
I hold dear the story and "folklore" of how Craig Bates, the D92, PE teacher, was "smitten" watching this beautiful woman walking across the playground to Adminsitrative Offices. I was delighted for both Craig and Sue that he had the courage to approach, her, such a lovely woman! What a endearing and enduring romance and mariage they had!
I am saddened by Sue's untimely death.
Many prayers and condolences to Craig and all of her family.

I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the family of Sue. I only had the extreme honor of working with Sue in d92 for one year before her retirement, but it was the most important, influential, and life-changing year for me and I owe it ALL to Sue. She was the one who interviewed me, believed in me, and hired me to be a speech pathologist 13 years ago fresh out of grad school and that is where I have remained. I will forever be grateful to her for giving me the encouragement and trust I needed to start my career. She was an amazing woman and I know she will be dearly missed by many.
With deepest sympathies,
Katie Truse

Dear Craig and Sue's Family,
I can't tell you how shocked and saddened Kenny and I were to hear of Sue's passing. I have always had such a deep respect for her that increased every time we sat across the table from each other at the many staffings we shared. I will always remember that her primary concern was always what was in the best interest of the students with disabilities she served. Although it's been several years since our paths have crossed, our memories of the great times and friendship we shared with the both of you Craig will last a lifetime. Although we cannot be there to extend our sympathies in person, please know that you and the entire family are in our thoughts and prayers. Sue, rest in peace sweetie!

Lots of good memories of the Holy Family years we spent together. At recent reunions we got a chance to share in them, and it was great! Condolences to Craig and the whole family. I am glad our paths had a chance to cross. Blessings and prayers as you struggle with her loss.

I took care of Sue and Craig’s independently wonderful dog Franz for eleven years, walking the little fellow faithfully five days a week, nine months a year.
Sue was one of the nicest, kindest and most thoughtful people I have ever known. She never failed to thank me for my care for Franz and frequently left me notes or treats or thoughtful gifts. Every Christmas without fail, she wrote a clever poem about me and Franz. Her last note in May, 2015, letting me know of Franz’ passing, has been on my desk ever since.
Over the years, Sue and I became friends and kept in touch even after Franz crossed the rainbow bridge.
On some occasions, when I walked Franz from her Dad’s house, Bob and I ALWAYS had serious armchair quarterbacking sessions about our beloved Cubs, what they did right or wrong, managerial decisions, etc.
Bob also ALWAYS talked about his wonderful children and the great care they were giving him.
It was with much sadness and shock that I read Sue’s obituary. We hadn’t talked for awhile, and I didn’t know she was ill. I’ll always hold a special place in my heart for her. She is definitely one of the good ones, and I’ll forever be grateful that she was a special person in my life.
My sincerest sympathies to Craig, her Dad, and sisters and brother. How lucky all of you are to have had her in your lives.
Fondly, Joyce

Sue was a great person to work with, although it has been many years since we sat around a conference table together. You were always confident in her leadership and decisions even as she twisted and twirled her pen! Condolences to her family. She will certainly be missed.

Sue was a kind, caring, and unassuming person. When Sue went to work in D92, I was offered the job she had formerly. I used to joke with Sue that I needed a shirt that read "I am not Sue Tierney". She was the consummate professional and treated students, parents, and staff with the utmost respect and empathized with parents regarding their child with special needs. My thoughts and prayers are with Craig, her Dad, and all of the family and friends.

Craig & Family;
I am heartbroken to not be able to be the other Nora calling my friend and mentor Sue ever again. I'm so sorry for your loss and know the void she leaves behind is immense. Sue always put her family first, did what was best for children with disabilities and lead her staff to be the best they could be. I am honored to have learned from her and share 24 years of friendship and kindness. I know she is at peace with her mom and others she has supported through the years. God Bless you Sue, I know you're flying with the angels as you were certainly one here on earth. Until we meet again keep smiling xoxoxox
