Luella M. Garreau
(nee Mertes)
Age 94. Peacefully Sunday, March 15, 2009 at the Tillers Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Oswego, with her family by her side. Born in East Dubuque, IL on April 29, 1914. She was raised in Kankakee and a Joliet area resident the past 45 years. Graduated from Kankakee High School. Parishioner of the Cathedral of St. Raymond. Luella enjoyed spending time with her family. In her leisure time, she enjoyed reading and embroidery. Her favorite pastime was crocheting rugs that are proudly displayed in the homes of special friends and family. Luella was also an avid Chicago Bulls fan.
Luella is survived by her loving children, Judith (Robert) Holland and Al (Virginia) Garreau; proud grandmother of Rick (Stacy) Rungaitis, Amy (Steve) Tampa and Sara (Tom) Purves; proud great-grandmother of Lucas, Owen, Keith, Megan and Collin; also survived by sister-in-law, Sue Mertes and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Victor Garreau (1993); her parents, C.L. and Matilda (nee Rieck) Mertes; brothers Merlin and Kenneth; sister, Virginia; and son-in-law Bruce Rungaitis.
A Memorial Service for Luella M. Garreau will be held on Thursday March 19, 2009 at the funeral home chapel at 6:30 p.m. Father Richard Ross officiating. As it was Luella's request, cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials in her name to Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated. Private inurnment Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
