Obituary of Maria Elena Bloom

Maria Elena Bloom, age 75, of Joliet, IL, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, December 8, 2020.

Born November 24, 1945 in Corozal, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of Miguel and Carmen (Santos) Ibanez.

Maria attended Joliet Junior College and St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing.  She worked as a Registered Nurse for St. Joseph Medical Center for 25 years.

A wonderful and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she had a big heart that she wore on her sleeve and would do anything for everyone.  She was a great cook who enjoyed ceramics, crocheting and passionately competing in the game Spinners.

She was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.

Surviving are her beloved husband, Louis Bloom; two sons, Louis Bloom, Jr. of Joliet, IL and Brian Jeffrey (Stephanie) Bloom of Lorton, VA; four grandchildren, Aiden and Amanda Bloom, Austin Bloom, and Angelina Muzzarelli; four sisters, Esther, Millie, Dayna and Magdalene "Maggie"; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Rosie Rosario, Carmen Berthelsen, Lucy Ibanez and one brother, Tom Ibanez.

Visitation for Maria will be held privately on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road (at Essington Road), Joliet.  Funeral services will be held Monday, December 14, 2020 where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 18 N. Woodlawn Ave., Joliet.  For those wishing to attend Mass, please arrive at the church at 10:45 a.m.  Facemasks are required and social distancing will be observed.

Interment will follow Mass at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
