Nancy, I wish I had known of the funeral service before today. I know there is a memorial at the college next week, and I wish I could attend. I will be in Arizona. As one of my former students, it almost felt like loosing a child when I heard of his death. Know that I will miss seeing him, and hope I'll get to share with you sometime in the future.

Dear Nancy, Renee, and Randall:
My deepest sympathy and prayers on the passing of a wonderful friend.
My first recollections working with Tex and Nancy on the JJC Grounds Team in the summer of 1977 and a friendship that has built over the years. Yes, the fun we had at the annual New Year's Eve Party and the stories he always liked to tell and we looked forward to listening.
Always enjoyed collaborating with Rich when we were on the JJC Alumni Board and the hosting of many of the annual Alumni Brunches which went off without a hitch under Rich's leadership.
I am so glad that our group was able to get together last summer at my house (in that 100 degree heat) because I have a good lasting memory of a final visit with Tex. l will miss him a lot as will others.

I first met Rich 26 years ago when I joined the Joliet Junior College Alumni Association Board of Directors. He immediately became a valued friend and was one of the people who convinced me to come work at JJC. In the years since then, I enjoyed seeing him around campus because he was always so positive. Tex cannot be replaced. My condolences to Nancy, Randall, and Renee.

Nancy, Renee, & Randall,
We are so very sorry to learn of Tex;s passing. Our thoughts and prayers continue for all of you.
Dan will miss seeing Tex in the mornings at Thornton's & I will miss popping in to say hi whenever
I had stopped over to see Tim, Cathy, DJ or ?
Our Lord must have needed a great man to take over His Heavenly College & grounds, but we will
miss Tex very much.
Prayers continue for all of you. Let us know if we can help you.
I was hoping that possibly the JJC Police Dept & JJC Vehicles would escort Tex to
Woodlawn on Saturday and make a short detour and drive through the JJC campus
for Tex;s Final Drive Patrol. I remember that everyday before he came home he would
drive the entire campus to make sure everything was ok.
A Final Drive Patrol before being taken to his Final rest.
All our love, Dan & Penny

I went to Holy Family Grade School with him and also Joliet West High School and Joliet Junior College. He is definitely going to be missed. Tex has been such a huge part of my life since I was a sophmore at JJC. From student worker to years later as a part-time groundskeeper Tex has always been the most compassionate, caring, reassuring human-being and I was blessed to have been a small piece of knowing him for latter part of a decade now. My sincere condolences and prayers to Rich "Tex" Rivera's family and dearest friends. You are truly a superman and always had a bright smile. I am glad that destiny had us cross paths and be intertwined for so long. RIP Tex

Rick was caring and thoughtful in every undertaking. His approach to problem solving reflected this. His ability to explain and clarify would make anyone feel assured. He welcomed, considered and appreciated all views. All of these things came together to make him someone everyone looked up to. His appreciation for animals and the outdoors was inspirational. My sisters and I will always consider him to be our big brother. He was, as mentioned below, the best story teller. He will be loved forever.

I am so saddened by the loss of Rich Rivera. I worked closely with Rich as a member of the Natural Areas Committee. Rich's extensive knowledge of the JJC campus and history made his a driving force in all the decisions that we made in managing the natural Areas. When our budget was tight for certain projects, Rich took it upon himself and other Buildings and Grounds personnel to step up and make it happen.
Many JJC employees may not know what a major impact Rich has had on JJC. I have never met anyone who loved JJC, and was as dedicated as him.
Even more important was that Rich Rivera was just an incredibly nice man. Even when he disagreed with what someone did, he condemned the action and not the person, and even went so far as to offer positive motivation for that person's reasoning behind what they did. I was fortunate enough to run into Rich a number of times off campus. He always sought me out to say "hi" as I did him. His son and my daughter played on the same YMCA basketball team. My daughter was the only girl on the team, and although the boys were not mean, they generally ignored her-- except a tall, lean kid that would shoot baskets with her and talk to her. I didn't know who it was until Rich approached me and I asked what he was doing at the Y, and he pointed to the tall, skinny kid and said "that's my son". And it makes sense that Rich's son, Randall, would have characteristics of his dad. I will miss Rich immensely. He had such a big impact on me, it is unfortunate it took his passing to make me realize that. My deepest sympathy to family and friends.
