Joseph Anthony Boylan
1943-2020
Joseph A. Boylan passed away after a long illness on Friday, December 18th at 11pm.
Born in Chattanooga, TN on January 20th, 1943, he was the only child of Joseph W. Boylan and Lucy Murray Boylan. His father was working in Oak Ridge, Tennessee during WWII. Joe was raised in Marquette Gardens in Joliet, Illinois. He attended St. Raymond for Kindergarten, St. Paul for grade school, and graduated from Joliet Catholic High school in 1961.
Joe attended college at Lewis University, graduating in 1966. He met his wife, Judith Williams Boylan his senior year and they married in 1967. He began teaching math at Frankfort Junior High school and began working on a master’s degree in guidance counseling, which he achieved in 1970 from Northern Illinois University. He always had a love for Lionel trains and that led him away from teaching to being the office manager for Railway and Industrial Services in Crest Hill. He retired from there in 2001. And after living in New Lenox for 38 years, Joe later moved to Carillon Lakes in Crest Hill.
A loving son, husband and father, Joe was preceded in death by his father Joseph W. Boylan, mother Lucy Murray Boylan, son Christopher P. Boylan, and his lifelong friend George Zdralevich. He is survived by his wife Judith Williams Boylan, daughter Beth Boylan Kane, son-in-law Thomas Charles Kane, granddaughter Emma Frances Kane and nephew Thomas Lawrence Williams.
Joe was an avid golfer and traveler. He was proud to be a member of the Joliet Country Club and enjoyed many vacations in Myrtle Beach with his family. Joe and his wife played golf in Ireland and Pebble Beach, California and made wonderful memories traveling across Europe.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Jude Parish, 241 W. Second Street in New Lenox, Illinois, Wednesday December 23, 2020 at 1:00 pm. A private burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks a donation be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association in Joe’s honor. A brief visitation will occur at church one hour prior to mass.
