Margaret Berens

Obituary of Margaret E. Berens

After a full 95 years of life on earth, Margaret “Marge” Berens entered eternal life on December 20, 2020.  A talented organist and choral director in her youth, Marge will now be accompanying the heavenly choir.

Daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Formento, Marge was a lifelong resident of Joliet and a graduate of St. Francis Academy.  Marge married Francis “Frank” Berens, the love of her life, on February 19, 1949.  She and Frank were devoted soulmates through all the joys and challenges of their 61 years of marriage.

Marge was a beautiful and gracious lady who could turn simple ingredients into a banquet and modest resources into works of art. Cooking and baking were expressions of her love for her family, friends, and pets.

She never ceased to amaze us with her outstanding mental acuity. We often told her she was “sharp as a tack” and her typical response was, “That’s what they tell me!”

Marge was preceded in death by her beloved husband Frank; dear parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Formento; cherished brother, Joseph Formento; and adored sister, Dolores “Dee” Bolan. Also preceding her in death were many fond brothers and sisters-in-law; Robert (Dee) Bolan, Edward (Mildred) Berens, Alice (Maurice) Ardaugh, Doris (John) Smego, Irma (Harlow) Fox, LaVerne (Mardel) Schneider, James (Raquel) Schneider and John Schneider.

Marge is survived by her devoted children, Richard Berens and Regina (David) Pommier; beloved grandsons, Joel and James Pommier; and many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Our sincere gratitude goes out to the many dear friends, family and faithful caregivers who have loved and supported Marge in so many ways throughout the years.  We also thank the dedicated staff of Transitions Hospice for providing comfort and tender care to Marge in her last days with us.
