Gregoria S. Camacho, age 97, a longtime resident of Joliet, entered Heaven’s gates, on Monday, December 21, 2020. Gregoria accepted Christ at an early age through the Spanish Assembly of God Church.  She was born in Mercedes, Texas on May 25, 1923, the daughter of the late David and Maria Guadalupe (nee Anaya) Sanchez. 

Gloria married Ysidro Camacho on March 1st, 1942 in Parr, Texas.  They moved to Joliet, IL in May 1949, where they raised their six children. She was a talented seamstress and worked in numerous department stores in the Joliet area for the majority of her career.   

Gloria’s greatest joys were her family, especially all of her grandchildren.  She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, and a hard worker. Her unconditional love, great faith in God, and a beautiful smile will never be forgotten.  

Gregoria is survived by her children, Isidro (the late Sandra) Camacho of Rockdale, IL, Ida (Vernon Lee) Riley of Joliet, IL, Diane (William) Weigel of Fort Myers, FL, Cris (Mario) Camacho-Diaz of Joliet, IL, and Ruben (Cindy) Camacho of Shorewood, IL; grandchildren, Gregory (Alise) Camacho, Gloria Schmieder, Kelly (the late Greg) McKeon, Raphael Camacho, Aaron (Kimberly) Riley, Kimberly (Dr. Geoff) Peterson, Kevin (Nicole) Weigel, Douglas (Diana) Camacho, Rory (Erika) Camacho, Cristina (Brandon) Camacho, and Tyler Camacho; great-grandchildren, Sophia and Andrew Camacho, Megan and Mara Schmieder, Samantha, Jake Chase, and Baylee Johnson,  A.J. (Danielle) Riley, Brendan (Idalis) Riley, Trevor Riley, Luke, Kara, and Jack Peterson, Mara Weigel, Allison, Sidney, Jon, Abby, Vincent, and Olivia Camacho; eight great-great grandchildren; siblings, Onecimo Sanchez, Romana Venegas, Richard (Ruth) Sanchez, Angie Kelly, and Carmen Storm; former daughter's-n-law, Laura Vetter Abel, Loka Camacho, and Annie Munoz-Camacho; former son-in-law, Michael Schmieder; and her lifelong dear friend, Olga Guzman.  Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

She is preceded by her loving husband Ysidro (2003); her parents; son, Raul Camacho: siblings, Eva Camacho, and Domingo Sanchez; one granddaughter, in infancy, Lisa Camacho; and brother-in-law, Samuel Camacho.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Joanna Zid with DuPage Medical Group, Dr. Elgar at St. Joseph Medical Center, Dr. Zinka with the Mayo Clinic, and to Michelle and Joanna with Help at Home for everything they've done for Gloria.

Funeral Services for Gregoria S.
