Obituary of S L Gorden

Age 90, a longtime Joliet, IL resident passed Saturday morning January 2, 2021 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home.  He was born March 1, 1930 in Mississippi to the late Callie (King) and Richard Gorden.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy Jean (Williamson) Gorden; three daughters, Lydia (Oliver) Thompson, Sr., Cheryl (Robert) Jones, Regina Williamson; step-daughter, Linda Ignacek; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends also survive.

Preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Frances Crim; grandson, Oliver Thompson, Jr.; sisters, Allene Lockhart Norris, Estell Tague, Helen Dowdy, Calina Bridges and one brother, W.J. Gorden.

S L retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co after many years of dedicated service.  He could often be found working on cars which he really enjoyed.  He helped many with their automotive needs over the years. S L was a longtime member of the Jehovah Witness Kingdom Hall on Rowell Avenue in Joliet.

Visitation for Mr. Gorden will be at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m.  Facemasks and social distancing are required as well as following capacity restrictions.

Private funeral services will be held by the family. Interment will follow the services at Brown Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
