Obituary of Joyce M. Hernandez
Born July 2, 1949, Joyce M. Hernandez, 71, lifetime resident of Joliet, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 17, 2021, at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was the daughter of Jesse and Mary “Medina” Jaso. She attended Joliet Central High School in the 1960s and Joliet Junior College in the 1980s. She worked for Catholic Charities as an Administrative Assistant, 1st National Bank as a Bank Teller, and retiring at Sam’s Club as an Accounting Clerk.
Joyce was a loving mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was known as the Dominoes Queen, an avid Spades player, and Bingo partner. In her free time, she was in the Pool league, Bowling league, and loved to gamble at Harrah’s Casino. As a movie junkie, she loved watching movies such as La Bamba, Selena, Braveheart, Rocky, and Clouds.
Joyce selflessly made everyone in her family feel special by always remembering your birthday, attending special occasions, and spending quality time with you. She was a fighter from the beginning, as a single mother that worked various jobs, but her main job was to remain dedicated to her children whom she loved very much. She remained independent her whole life, never relying on anyone but always keeping her home open to others. She cared for her family, was proud of everyone, and never forgot anyone’s accomplishments. She listened whole-heartedly to everyone and never passed judgment.
Joyce was most remembered for her passion for finer foods (Applebee’s, Rax, Old Fashioned Pancake House, and Panera) and her homemade cooking. She worked her way into your heart through your stomach by making homemade tortillas, tamales, enchiladas, and her special banana nut bread. Joyce left behind a lasting footprint everyday in her family’s lives. Her smile, outspokenness, and her comedic attitude brought joy to many. She will be remembered yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Always remembered, never forgotten.
Survived by her loving children: Jodi Hernandez, Jill Hernandez, and Mary Jane Hernandez; Grandkids: Nicole Hernandez, Dylan Bernal, Crystal Hernandez, Mercedes Hernandez, Priscilla Hernandez, Martika Hernandez, Matthew Hernandez, Juan “Buddy” Martinez, Julian Flores, Alexisis Hernandez, Deanna Martinez, Kodi Lopez, Sierra Flores, Elijah Flores, Zora Martinez, Brandon Flores, and Grandma’s Favorite, Aubrey Monique Hernandez; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse G. Jaso and Mary Medina Jaso; a brother, Jesse “Tio” Jaso; her son, Ysidro “Cowboy” Hernandez; a grandson, Richard Kayel Lopez; and lifetime companion, Snooop Dogg Hernandez, her dog.
