Obituary of Doris Ann McBroom
Doris Ann McBroom
It is with great sadness we announce the loss of a great mother, loving wife, and dear friend, Doris Ann McBroom on January 20, 2021.
Doris was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer on October 22, 2020. She battled for 3 months and had such a willingness to live for her husband, three children, and grandchildren, which whom she loved and adored.
She would do anything for her family, especially for her boys. Her boys were everything to her. Between going to baseball games, taking care of grandchildren, and hanging out with Leroy, Doris had a very full life.
Doris was born in Quincy, Illinois on December 1, 1953, to the late Robert and Shirley (Rice) Powers. She graduated from Kelly High School in 1972. She met her husband, Charles Leroy McBroom, in her early twenties. They fell in love and got married on April 25, 1976.
Doris and Leroy moved to Lockport in 1976 into a quaint little neighborhood off Farrell Road, where they had three children; Charles Leroy McBroom Jr, Robert William McBroom, and Christopher Wayne McBroom.
Doris never missed a baseball, football, hockey, or basketball game. She was always known for being her boy’s number one fan. When her grandchildren started playing sports, she was at every game possible.
Doris had three siblings: the late Brenda (Powers) Novak, Robert Powers Jr., and Lewis Powers. Doris loved her siblings. She talked to her sister every day. She loved her brothers with all her heart. Family was important to her.
She had three daughters-in-law who gave her those precious grandchildren: Rebecca (Shroba) McBroom, Andrea (Furto) McBroom, and Shamile (Harris) McBroom. Her beloved grandchildren, Nathan McBroom, Mira McBroom, Brynlee McBroom, Miranda McBroom, Eastin McBroom, Allison McBroom, Nakariel Clark, and Kherington McBroom.
Doris had many good friends. Her best friend, Shirley Thomas, meant the world to her. They met during Doris’s teen years and remained friends up until her passing.
The same was with the Samoska’s. She loved raising her kids with the Samoska’s. Always laughing, playing cards, and staying up until the wee hours of the night. Boy did she really miss Mary after she passed.
Aunt Sue was like a sister to Doris. She loved spending time with her, Uncle LC, and their beloved family. They took vacations together and just had the best time.
And of course her Lockport boys. Everyone had a good time at the McBroom house on Farrell Road. Everyone knew Mrs. McBroom. She welcomed everyone and anyone and loved everyone.
Doris made the Missouri house a fun and welcoming home. Doris took in many friends. She gave them love and treated them like family.
The love of Doris’s life, besides Leroy of course, was Hank Williams Jr. She loved going to concerts. The last concert she attended was with Bob and Chris in 2015. She insisted on sitting in the front row. After that night, she claimed she lost part of her hearing. Seeing Hank sing that close was all worth it to her.
Doris will be missed by so many. She was such a fun-loving woman. What a legacy she left. May you Rest in Peace Doris Ann McBroom....Until we meet again.
