Obituary of Mark A. Guzman
Mark A. Guzman
Mark Anthony Guzman, age 48, of Joliet, passed away peacefully, Friday, January 22, 2021 at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, with his loving family by his side.
Mark was born June 13, 1972 in Joliet, and was a graduate of Providence Catholic High School, Class of 1990.
Despite long term serious health challenges, Mark loved life. His happiest days included fun, good food and good friends. He was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3585, a fierce competitor at Provi Alumni Trivia Nights, and a billiards boss who loved playing pool, especially at Angie’s in Rockdale, where he was not only an Amateur Pool Association member for many years but was loved by the bar that he loved back. To Mark, time well spent meant time with his friends who shared his love of the Chicago Cubs, cook-outs and road trips. And no one on Earth ever loved pizza more. To Mark, pizza had healing powers. Only chocolate and good, strong coffee sometimes came close.
Mark’s open and very honest heart loved and deeply cherished family and friends alike who, time and time again, gave him unconditional love, friendship and support no matter how tough his life turned out to be. And if Mark’s dog, Simon, who Mark taught to say “Mom”, could really talk, Simon would tell us he was the luckiest and most beloved canine in the world.
He was preceded in death by his father, Miguel S. “The Boss” Guzman (2005); his mother, Alicia (Granados) Guzman (2019); a sister, Mari Guzman Flores (2012); and his brother, Michael W. “The Guz” Guzman (2018).
Surviving are his devoted sisters, Laura Guzman and Elizabeth Guzman, both of Joliet; a loving niece, Marisol Flores; two dear nephews, Emmanuel and Nicholas Flores; the extended Guzman and Granados families in Mexico City, Mexico; and many, many dear friends.
