Obituary of Elaine B. Echeverria

Age 69, of Plainfield, IL and a former longtime Chicago resident, passed away at the University of Chicago Hospital Friday, January 22, 2021.  She was born September 24, 1951 to the late Doris (Larrisey) and Harold Brazil in Augusta, Georgia where she was raised and educated. 

Beloved mother of  Melody (Tony) Armatys, Vanessa Handy, Yesenia (Marco) Barajas, Gloria (Gus) Rodriguez and Rick (Sol) Echeverria; proud nana of Robbie, Nico; Anthony, Jessica, Joe, Emma, Ayva; Yoanna, Alexa; Mia, Malakye, Savannah and Noah; great grandmother of  Azmariah, Layla and Camila. Also surviving are her brother, two sisters, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents and sister.

Elaine retired as a Central Office Technician from AT & T after many years of service. She loved collecting recipes, researching her ancestry, gardening and everything “Georgia.”  People that knew her would say her energy was infectious, easily the life of the party. Her friendship and love will be missed by all. 

Visitation for Elaine will be held Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 5:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd) Joliet.  Funeral services will be Friday morning, 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home to Holy Family Catholic Church 600 N. Brookforest Ave (Rt 59) Shorewood, IL where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name can be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
