Obituary of John L. Rapcan Jr.
John L. Rapcan Jr.
Age 69, of Lockport, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2021, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home. He was born in Joliet and lived in Lockport for most of his life. John graduated from Lockport Township High School with the class of 1969. He retired from Exxon Mobil in 2013, following 41 years of service.
John was an active member of the Crest Hill Lions Club, where he chaired many events and was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for his years of dedication to the club. He was an avid White Sox fan and drove Route 66 from coast to coast.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Pamela (Ware) Rapcan of Lockport; two sons, Chris (Christy) Rapcan of Lockport and Sean (Stacy) Rapcan of Joliet; two grandchildren, Brooke and Brandi Rapcan; two step-grandchildren, Chrystal Nero and Jacob Masters; his mother, Phyllis (Buttles) Rapcan of Plainfield; six siblings, Karen, Mary (Mike), Tom (Beth), Tim (Carol), Dale (Sandy) and David (Kim); sister-in-law, Shelia; and many nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his father, John L. Rapcan Sr.; and brother, Jim Rapcan.
As it was John’s request, cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial gathering will be held at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet on Saturday, January 30, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 3:00 p.m. Facemasks, social distancing, and capacity limits will be observed.
