Obituary of Marilyn J. Nichols
Age 83, a longtime Joliet, IL resident passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, February 4, 2021 at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home. She was born in Granite City, IL on April 9, 1937, the daughter of the late Slavco and Dora (Alabach) Evangeloff. She graduated from Madison High School in Madison, IL and attended Illinois State University. Marilyn retired from Eisenhower Academy, District 86 in 1988. She was a member of St. Mary Magdalene, where she sang in the choir. She was also an accomplished pianist.
Survived by five children, Robert (Joan) Nichols of Joliet, Patricia (Ben) Midlock of Elwood, Nancy (Greg) Svoboda of Punta Gorda, FL, John (Kim) Nichols of Elwood and Rich (Mary Kay) Nichols of Homer Glen; thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; three nieces and one nephew also survive.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Donald; son, James Nichols (1986); her parents; and sister, Sylvia Lux.
Visitation for Marilyn J. Nichols will be held on Friday, February 12, 2021, at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black (at Essington) Rd, Joliet, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Facemasks are required, capacity requirements and social distancing will be observed. Funeral Services will be Saturday, February 13, 2021, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 127 S Briggs St, Joliet, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Seating in church is limited. Pre-registration is required. Please contact the funeral home no later than 24 hours in advance if you wish to attend the Funeral Mass. Registered guests are asked to meet in church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Joliet. Memorials in her name to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Will and Grundy Counties would be appreciated.
