Obituary of John E. McCarthy
John E. McCarthy, age 75, of Joliet, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021, at Amita Health St. Joseph Medical Center. John bravely fought several illnesses over the past few years.
Born January 21, 1946, in Joliet, he was the son of John B. and Betty (Soland) McCarthy. They preceded him in death along with his loving daughter, Gina L. McCarthy.
John was a veteran of the United States Army and the Army Reserve during the Vietnam War. For 37 years, he owned and operated Mac’s Tap in Joliet.
A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, John will be remembered as a free spirit who enjoyed life to the fullest.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Paulette L. (Havens) McCarthy of Joliet; one son, John E. McCarthy, Jr.; four grandchildren, Bon, Levi, Megan and Shane Turnbull; two sisters, Sandy Steritt and Kathleen (Donald) Vetter; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation for John McCarthy will be held Monday, February 15, 2021, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, (at Essington Road), Joliet. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation.
