Jacqueline R. Hickey, age 94, of Joliet, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at home, with her loving family by her side.

She was born October 9, 1926 in Joliet, to Percy and Rose (Clavenna) Burns, and was a graduate of Providence Catholic High School.  Jackie was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, the Visitation and Aid Society, and the Joliet Country Club.

A loving, considerate and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, family was her life and she always thought of the needs of her family first.  She loved to cook and entertain, and was also an avid reader and gardener.  She will be remembered for her thoughtfulness, her generosity, and her impeccable sense of fashion.  She loved to travel.  Jackie and her husband, Bill, wintered in Hawaii for 17 years, always returning in time to be with their family on Mother’s Day.   Her daughters will especially miss their daily conversations with their mother. 

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband and the love of her life, William D. Hickey (1999); one sister, Patricia Wyss; and her parents.

Surviving are her daughters, Patricia Ann Hickey of Chicago, Jacqueline A. Hickey of Chicago, and Janet Hickey (the late Robert) Kapella of Joliet; one grandson, Robert (Catherine) Kapella; two great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Anna Kapella; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers who took such loving care of their mother, especially Veronica, Luchie, Mae and Mary.

Visitation for Jackie Hickey will be held Friday, February 12, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, (at Essington Road), Joliet.  Funeral services will be Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 9:45 a.m., from the funeral home to St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.  Fr. Patrick Lee, a close family friend, will officiate.  Face masks and social distancing will be required at both the funeral home and at church.  Entombment in Resurrection Mausoleum, Romeoville, will be private.

A memorial luncheon will be planned for a later time for family and friends to gather and celebrate Jackie’s life.
