Obituary of Neil Monroe Swanson

Neil M. Swanson Sr., of Morris, Illinois, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on his late wife’s birthday, February 11, 2021.  He was born April 20, 1930 in Warren, Pennsylvania to the late Carl and the late Lillian (Samuelson) Swanson.  Neil was also preceded by his beloved wife, Lorraine (Wilkinson-Kane) Swanson (2006), and his five siblings. 

He is survived by his six children, Sharman (late Dave) Strode, Neil (Rita) Swanson II, Kenneth John (Liz) Kane, Miriam “Mimi” Kane, Diane Miller, and Judie (Wayne) Moss; his 12 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren also survive. 

Neil graduated from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois. He was a Veteran of the United States Army and served Caterpillar Tractor and U.S. Steel for the majority of his adult working career.

 

Neil leaves behind a legacy of service to Jesus Christ including serving as Vice Chairman, Sunday School Superintendent, Teacher, Deacon, Trustee, and other leadership positions in multiple churches.  Neil loved playing his trumpet in church, in the U.S. Army Band, and enjoyed leading rousing song services at numerous church gatherings. 

 

He was especially proud of all of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who became Christ-followers and pursued many various professional vocations including pastoring churches in the Chicagoland area. 

 

Services will be held at Mission Bible Church, 412 N. Wabena Ave., Minooka, Il. 60447 on Monday, February 15, 2021, including visitation from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. and a Memorial Service, led by his grandson, Pastor Erik Swanson at 2:00p.m.

 

Interment will be private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Illinois.
