Maria Asencion Montenegro Herrera

Maria Asencion Montenegro, age 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at her home in Plainfield, surrounded by her loving family.  Maria was born in La Purisima, Durango, Mexico on April 26, 1937, the daughter of the late Maximo and Felicita Herrera Perez.  

Maria was a devout catholic who loved the Lord and the Virgin Mary. Maria loved praying the Rosary and was an active parishioner of St. Mary Immaculate Parish.  She was a devoted wife, loving mother, precious sister and cherished grandmother who will be missed by all.

Maria is survived by her loving husband of 66  years, Enrique J. Montenegro; her children, Jamie (Rosa) Montenegro, Paul (Luisa) Montenegro, Enrique (Ofelia) Montenegro, Gloria (Rafael) Ramirez, Rosa (Ricardo) Contreras; Guille Montenegro (daughter in law) Jose Cabral (son in law) and her grandchildren, Rosa Selly Vargas, Yaritza, Jaime Jr, Lisandra, Arnold,  Paul Jr, Deric, Jessica, Eddie, Ricky, Isacc, Janet, Evet, and Celena Montenegro, Floricela Alvarado, Yuri Talbot, Cindy Nunez, Lissette Ramirez, Cristian Contreras, Carina and Alex Cabral, many great grandchildren, and numerous other relatives also survive.

She is preceded by her parents; her son, Arnold Montenegro; and her daughter, Martha Carbral.

Funeral Services for Maria Asencion Montenegro will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, from the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL to St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m.  Interment will follow at Risen Lord Cemetery, Oswego.  Visitation will take place on Tuesday at the funeral home, from 2:00 to  8:00 p.m.  In accordance with the Illinois guidelines, face masks are required and social distancing will be observed.
