Obituary of James E. McGuire

James E. McGuire, age 87, of Joliet, passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Amita Health St. Joseph Medical Center Joliet.

Jim was born May 12, 1933 in Joliet, to Emmett J. and Mildred A. (Clark) McGuire.  He was a graduate of Joliet Catholic High School and Northern Illinois University.  He enlisted in the United States Army with his twin brother, Jack, and they served together in Germany during the Korean War.  Jim worked in the education field for several years before joining the Will County Land Use Department where he was employed until his retirement.

Jim enjoyed golf, swimming, riding in his convertible, Notre Dame football and the White Sox.  He and his wife travelled to Europe, Hawaii and the Caribbean, but his favorite destination was Siesta Key, Florida.  He was a member of the Irish American Club of Will County.

Surviving are his loving wife of 63 years, Judy (Rogan) McGuire; children, Daniel (Anne) McGuire, DDS and Lori McGuire; sister-in-law, Marilyn A. McGuire; cousin, Richard (Carol) McGuire; and many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul and John “Jack” McGuire; one sister, Helen (August) La Barre; and nephews, Thomas McGuire and Michael Carey.

The family would like to extend its gratitude to Ruth (Nurse), Mary (Eucharistic Minister), Jody (Neighbor), and all the wonderful CNAs who provided exceptional care for Jim.

Visitation for James McGuire will be held Saturday, March 20, 2021 from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, (at Essington Road), Joliet.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m., at the Church of St. Jude, Joliet.  Face masks and social distancing will be required.  Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Romeoville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jim’s name to St. Jude Catholic School would be appreciated.
