Obituary of Catherine M. Ridgway

Catherine M. Ridgway, (nee Murray), age 77, of Shorewood the past 14 years, and a former resident of Flossmoor for 38 years, passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, with her loving family by her side.

Born March 5, 1944 in Chicago, she was the daughter of Cornelius “Neil” and Dorothy (Redmond) Murray. 

Catherine worked for Homewood Flossmoor High School as a registrar for many years.  She was also an active member and past president of the Flossmoor School District #161 PTO and was a volunteer with Joliet Area Community Hospice.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who will be remembered for her character, friendliness and smile.  She was also the greatest fan and supporter of all her sons’ and grandchildren’s athletic activities.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 56 years, John A. Ridgway of Shorewood; three devoted sons, Daniel (Tracy) Ridgway of St. Charles, Kenneth Ridgway of Homewood, and Thomas Ridgway of New Lenox; five loving grandchildren, Jack, Callan, Cole, Jake and Andrea; one dear sister, Ann Therese Coffey of South Carolina; a brother-in-law, Thomas Slavin; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Rosetta Slavin; and a brother-in-law, Michael D. Coffey, MD.

Visitation for Catherine Ridgway will be held Monday, March 22, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, (at Essington Road), Joliet.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 23, at 10:00 a.m., at the funeral home.  Face masks and social distancing will be required.  Interment will be in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to Joliet Area Community Hospice would be appreciated.
