Obituary of David J. Healy

David J. Healy, 73, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 10, 2021. He was born October 30, 1947, and was raised in Chicago, IL.  He was a former resident of Manhattan, Joliet, and a resident of Rockford, IL for the past 30 years. He was a US Army Veteran who served overseas in Germany. He retired from Viking Chemical in Rockford, IL in 2014 after over 34 years of dedicated service as a salesman. Dave was a man of many gifts and talents. He enjoyed volunteering at the Ken-Rock Community Center, leading the annual Haunted House for several years, coaching softball, and serving on the board. He was also the ultimate, unwavering Chicago White Sox fan.

His greatest gift was his love of music. He was a natural born musician all his life, from practicing in his mother’s garage as a teenager to over 60 years of performing on stage.  In his younger years, he traveled all across the country playing music.  All of these things paled in comparison to the love he had for his family. His love for his wife, children, and grandchildren was the center of his universe.

He is preceded by one son, Matthew Healy (1985) at 5 months old; his mother, Judy Selfridge; three brothers-in-law, Mark L. Dames, Larenz Rall and John Zeller; and his father and mother-in-law, Alven and Marie Zeller.
 
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Violet Healy of Rockford, IL; two daughters, Tiffany (Ted) Croisant and Melody Healy, both of Rockford, IL; one son, Josh (Sam) Healy of Overland Park, KS; five grandchildren, Benjamin Croisant, Ariyana and Cameron Healy, and Vincent and Marcy Healy; one sister, Sharon A. Dames of Shorewood, IL; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service for David Healy will be held Friday, April 16, 2021 at Alpine Lutheran Church, 5001 Forest View Avenue, Rockford, IL at 11 a.m. Pastor Dan Wynard will be officiating. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services. As it was David’s request, cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made out to the Healy family for his grandchildren’s education fund would be appreciated. Fred C. Dames Funeral Homes is in charge of these arrangements.
