Obituary of Dorothy Best

Dorothy Best (nee Griffin), age 96.  At rest May 14, 2021 at Sunny Hill Nursing Home, Joliet, IL.  She was born on January 24, 1925 to the late Ralph and Olive Griffin. 

Dorothy grew up as an only child in Leeds and in her later teen years in Blackpool, England.  She met Joseph Best while he was serving in the US Army during WWII in England.  She came to the United States as a “War Bride.”

Dorothy was an avid walker.  She walked the moors in England, the neighborhoods of Chicago and Shiller Park where she raised her family.  Dorothy and Joseph retired to Florida and eventually moved back to Sandwich, IL to be close to family.  She continued to stay active while at the Timbers of Shorewood and Sunny Hill Nursing Home.

She is survived by her three children, Howard (Gloria) Best,  Marcia (Roger) Konopa and Bruce (Joyce) Best; five grandchildren, Heather Egland (Geary Yonker), Amber Konopa, Gwendolyn Konopa, Kathryn Best and Allison (Ben) Williams; five great-grandchildren, Elijah and Ava Yonker, Olivia Konopa and Cameron and Carter Williams.

Preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph Best; and grandson, Luke Best.

Visitation for Dorothy Best will be Tuesday, May 18th, 9:00 -11:00 a.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet.  Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
