Phyllis Rapcan

Obituary of Phyllis M. Rapcan

Phyllis M. Rapcan, age 89, of Plainfield, IL, passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, at Lakewood Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Joliet, IL on June 15, 1931, the daughter of the late Earl and Helen (nee Boyd) Buttles.

Small in stature but not in strength, Phyllis was mother to eight feisty children. Sometimes hanging back but usually right out front, we'll never forget her yelling after her beloved "Yonce" and now after almost 20 years they'll be reunited.

Living with the same disease that took her mother from her at a young age, Phyllis held on tightly to life. As she would say, she had a "strong heart" and with this heart, she wrapped her crafty talents around her family. She will live on through the warm hugs from her many crocheted blankets, through her ceramics that adorn our homes during the holidays, and in the many memories we all have of meals shared and conversations had. She was both a sneaky challenger at a game of King's corner and a helpful hand with a puzzle. Known nostalgically for that pinchy face with a little squeeze, this quirk can be traced down through her great-grandchildren. Her pull was strong.

She greatly enjoyed the fellowship she found at Calvary Temple and found solace in reading her daily devotions at home. She would share her faith and hope for redemption and wish for the same for you. If there was ever a need, Phyllis was there to pray on it with you—and with great results! We'll miss you, Phyllis Marie. We love you.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Karen (John) Weston, Mary (Michael) Crowther, Tom (Beth) Rapcan, Tim (Carol) Rapcan, Dale (Sandra) Rapcan and David (Kim) Rapcan; her daughters-in-law, Pam Rapcan and Sheila Rapcan; her grandchildren, Christopher (Christy) Rapcan, Sean (Stacy) Rapcan, Jeremy Rapcan, Matthew Rapcan, Kristen (Trey) Smith, Kelly Weston, Amy (Darin Douglas) Crowther, Michael (Karly) Crowther, Erin (Ed) Dul, Thomas (Staci) Rapcan, Jr., Joseph (fiancé Karina Ramos) Rapcan, Jennifer Little, Christina (Kent) Arriano, Andrew Rapcan, Ean Rapcan, Allie (Andrew) Tucker, Nicholas (Chelsea) Rapcan, and Joshua Rapcan; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded by her loving husband, John “Yoncey”; two sons, James Rapcan and John Rapcan, Jr.; her parents; and her sister, Helen Delaney.
