Obituary of Sophie Honiotes
Sophie Honiotes, (nee Baltas), age 91, passed away at her late residence, with her loving family by her side on Thursday, May 20, 2021.
Born in Joliet, she was the daughter of the late James and Helen Baltas, and was a graduate of Minooka High School. She was the retired owner and operator of Windy’s Greenhouse and Honiotes Family Food Store. She retired from Siegel’s Cottonwood Farm at age 83. Sophie was a former member and President of the Philoptochos Society. Most importantly, she was a loving and caring Mom.
Sophie is survived by her loving children, Helen, Jyme (James) Perry, and John (Robin) Honiotes. Sophie was also an amazing Yia Yia to her four loving grandchildren; Suzanne (Mitch) Converse, William John Honiotes II, Adam (Jessica) Honiotes, and Anne (Anthony) Bachara. Also surviving are her cherished great-grandchildren, Jack and Max Bartholme, Brylee, John “JT”, Jaxon, Ava and John William II “JW” Honiotes, Lily Mascal, Anthony “AJ”, Zachary, and Chloe Bachara, and Colton Page; many nieces and nephews; and three Godchildren.
Sophie was preceded in death by her husband, William John Honiotes; parents, James and Helen Baltas; brother, Jacob Baltas; three sisters, Genevieve Vrakas, Irene Baltas, and Marina Passas; and her great-grandchild, Gavin William Bachara.
The family would like to thank Lightways Hospice for all their amazing care in the home.
Visitation for Sophie Honiotes will be held Saturday, May 22, 2021 from 2 p.m. until services begin at 3 p.m. at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 102 N. Broadway St. Joliet. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Sophie’s name may be made to All Saints Greek Orthodox Church Altar Fund.
