Obituary of Richard J. Sako

Richard J. Sako, age 79, of Channahon, passed away Thursday May 27, 2021 at Lightways Hospice with his loving family at his side. Richard was born October 3, 1941 in Joliet, IL and attended St. Cyril and Methodius Grade School and Joliet Catholic High School (Class of 1959).

Richard was a proud U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War from 1964-1966.  He worked as a machinist at the EJ&E Railroad for 25 years, followed by 15 years as maintenance supervisor at the Tower Apartments.  He also worked part-time on the weekends as a musician playing the drums for many weddings and other special occasions.  He was a member of American Legion Post #1080.  In his free time, he loved gardening and spending time at his cottage by the Fox River.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Janice (nee Trizna); son, Joseph Sako; daughter, Lynn (Michael) Marchio; grandchildren, Mira Marchio and Zeno Marchio.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Modesta (nee Kolakowski) Sako and brother, Raymond Sako.

Visitation for Richard Sako will be Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet from 4:00-7:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 416 N. Chicago St., Joliet where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.  Facemasks are required at both the funeral home and church.  Interment will follow at SS. Cyril & Methodius Cemetery, Joliet.
