Rita G. Gourley
(nee Carey)
Age 85, of Joliet and formerly of Morris, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 26, 2009 at her late residence. Born in Morris, the daughter of the late William Sylvester "Bumpa" and Elizabeth "Lyde" (nee Todd) Carey. Graduate of Providence High School (June 1, 1941) despite frequently skipping school with her sister and friends. Member of Chapter Lambda Nu, Phi Tau Omega Sorority. Lifelong parishioner of St. Patrick's Parish. Member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Cantigny Post #367. Rita's unwavering faith helped her to overcome great health challenges and remain positive in her daily life with her loving friends, family, and neighbors. She will be missed dearly and never forgotten.
Survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Dave Gourley; her daughter, Meg (Bob) Grime; grandchildren, David, Sarah, Riley, Benjamin, and Logan Grime; sister, Teresa Ann (Bill) McNiff; sisters-in-law, Audrey Carey, Rita Carey, and Helen Gourley; and a small country's population of loving nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her son, David Greer Gourley III; sisters, Agnes, Margaret, and Mary Carey, and Bette (Bob) Dempsey; brothers, William Carey, Richard "Abe" (Jeanne) Carey, and Paul Carey; and brother-in-law, Bob Gourley.
Funeral Services for Rita G. Gourley will be Monday, March 2, 2009 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home chapel to St. Patrick Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment Resurrection Cemetery.
