Christina Lynn O'Brien
Age 54, of Channahon, IL passed away quietly, surrounded by her family and friends on June 29 after a courageous battle against cancer.
Chris was born December 5, 1966, to the late Alta and Archie Burgett in Freeport, IL. She was a graduate of Freeport High School and attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology.
It was at SIU where she met her husband Terry with whom she just recently celebrated 28 years of marriage. They made their home in Channahon where sons Logan and Shane were raised. Active in the community, Chris could be found volunteering at school events, attending Logan and Shane’s athletic events, or helping out whenever there was a need.
In addition to her beloved husband and sons, she is also survived by her sister Lisa Burgett, sister- and brothers-in-law, several nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins. She will also be missed by a number of close, supportive friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Terry's parents, Larry and Patricia O’Brien; and her sister, Elizabeth McClain.
Chris had been employed as the Director of Environmental Health for Grundy County.
A very social and positive woman, Chris will be remembered fondly by her friends as a great planner and multi-tasker who enjoyed get-togethers, which were always fun-filled and memorable. Her family will remember her as a woman of substance who treated everyone with respect and kindness. They will especially remember how she handled adversity lately with such courage and strength.
Visitation for Chris will be held Friday, July 2 at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 1201 W. Rt. 6 (at Deerpath Dr) in Morris, IL, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Friends and family are welcome to assemble at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, July 3 to drive together to St. Columba Cemetery, 1800 N. 2990th Road, Ottawa, IL. Interment will begin at 11 a.m. with Reverend David Kipfer officiating. Pallbearers will be Patti Butts, Lori Collalti, Cathy Johnson, Serena Mastro, Tina Perczynski, Cerise Poupore, Julie Reynolds, and Holly Schubert. Friends, family, and colleagues are invited to attend the graveside service.
Chris loved animals and nature. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name can be made to your local humane or wildlife society or anything associated with animals or nature.
