Obituary of Panthia Santers

Panthia Santers
(nee Papogeorgiou)

Panthia Santers, of Naperville, passed away at the age of 85, on Sunday, June 27, 2021, at Seasons Hospice in Naperville.  Panthia was born in Pentagiou, a small town in Greece, on January 11, 1936.  She later moved to Athens where she was married.  She then moved to America, where she and her husband started a family while operating a chain of grocery stores.  She attended the All Saints Greek Orthodox Church in Joliet at first.  Later she became a member of the Chicago Church of Christ and moved to Chicago.  She was known for her great cooking, and hospitality, and was loved by many.  Finally, moving to Naperville, she lived out the remainder of her days there.

Panthia is survived by her son, Demetrios (Theresa) Santers of Naperville; and her nieces and nephews, Tina Xydakis, Flora Ulrich, John Spanides, Despina Lambatharithou.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Nikolaos Santorinaios (1989); and her parents, John and Marigo (nee Papoulias) Papogeorgiou.

Visitation for Panthia Santers will be held on Friday, July 2, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.), Joliet, IL. Interment will take place on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. from the funeral home to Woodlawn Memorial Park for a 3:00 p.m. graveside service.

Panthia was both modest and generous in nature.  It would serve her memory well to give to any charity of your choice.  If you would like to give a donation to the church she belonged to, for their work in spreading the gospel around the world (the Chicago group is mainly focused on Eastern Europe, but as a whole, they are trying to reach every part of the globe) please go to https://www.chicagochurch.org/giving/.  Choose the one-time gift amount; select the “Midpoint” Campus and “Mission Contribution” designation.
