Ellen R. Murphy, age 76, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at Presence Villa Franciscan in Joliet, surrounded by the love of her family.  She was born on August 7, 1944, the daughter of the late G. Wayne and Dolores (nee Hoffman) Rogers in Lima, OH.  She was a proud graduate of Michael Reese Hospital, School of Nursing, Class of 1966.

Ellen was a quiet, caring soul who loved and enjoyed a long career in the medical industry as a Registered Nurse in the various places in which she lived.  Her favorite location was in Alaska.  In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family.

Ellen is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Edmund Murphy; three daughters, Catherine (John) McNamara, Laura (Terrance) Carey, and Joanne Murphy; and her four grandchildren, Lauren and Andrew McNamara and Seamus and Liam Carey.

She is preceded by her parents; and one sister, Ann Schreiner.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Lightways Hospice for the exceptional care and compassion they gave to Ellen.

Funeral Services for Ellen R. Murphy will be held privately by the family.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name to Doctors Without Borders, P. O. Box 5030, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5030, would be appreciated.
