Obituary of Richard J. Meyers
Richard J. Meyers, age 86, late of Crest Hill, IL and formerly Dyer, IN and The Villages, FL, passed away peacefully Friday morning July 23, 2021 at Amita Health St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, IL.
He was born October 14, 1934 in Chicago, the son of Roy F. and Anna R. (Hubacek) Meyers. He was raised on the South Side of Chicago, and was a proud graduate of Mt. Carmel High School. Rich then attended the University of Illinois Circle Campus where he also played football. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army.
Dick worked as an information technology professional and data processing consultant throughout his career.
A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed spending time with his family and especially enjoyed giving the grandchildren golf cart rides when they came to visit at his retirement home in The Villages. He was also a huge Chicago sports fan and a devoted follower of the Cubs, Bears and Bulls. He enjoyed swimming and loved dancing at Katie Belle’s.
Rich is survived by his loving children Daniel (Wendy) Meyers of Chandler, AZ, Judith Meyers of Lockport, Matthew (Janet) Meyers of Chicago, and Christopher (Amber) Meyers of Naperville; and nine adoring grandchildren, Madison Meyers, Nicholas, Corey and Anastasia Evans, Margaret, Caroline and Andrew Meyers, and Ethan and Sarah Meyers.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia A. (Wagner) Meyers (August 10, 2003); his parents; and one brother, Roy J. Meyers.
Visitation for Richard will be Thursday, July 29, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd., (at Essington Rd.), Joliet. Funeral services will be Friday, July 30, 2021 at 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Crest Hill, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to the National Shrine of St. Jude, 3200 E. 91st Street, Chicago, IL 60617 (www.shrineofstjude.org) or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated.
