Obituary of Christopher John Hirmer

Christopher John Hirmer

Christopher John Hirmer, age 63, passed away peacefully, at his home in Elwood, on Saturday, July 24, 2021, surrounded by the love of his family.  Chris was born in White Bear Lake, MN, on June 30, 1958, the son of the late John Edward and Clare Marie Hirmer.  He was a graduate of Joliet West High School Class of 1976 and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from North Central College, Class of 1986. He had a long career in the IT industry, working with startups to Fortune 500 companies. Chris was well respected for his knowledge and expertise and was beloved by many peers. He was a compassionate and devoted man who contributed both time and money to many charitable causes and organizations.

Chris also had a passion for gourmet cooking, traveling, reading, Nordic skiing, and cycling. But his true religion was Jerry Garcia and The Grateful Dead. He was a true aficionado of American Roots music and danced to the beat of a different drum!

Chris is survived by his best friend & love of his life Jan, with 33 wonderful years together. They were blessed with a beautiful daughter Kelsey, 31, also of Elwood, IL; younger brother, Steven; sister-in-law, Carol (Drew) Meirow of Colorado; brother-in-law, Kevin Kopech of Florida; and an abundance of loving friends and co-workers.

He is preceded by his parents, John and Clare Hirmer, and his in-laws, John and Mary H. Kopech.
