Obituary of W. Edward Eltzroth

W. Edward “Ed” Eltzroth, 82, of Shorewood, IL passed away peacefully Saturday morning, August 28, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born January 12, 1939 in Chillicothe, OH to the late William Earl and Edna (Bier) Eltzroth.  He attended the University of Cincinnati and upon graduation he began a dedicated career with Mead Containers (Mead Corporation) in Bridgeview, IL until his retirement.  He and his family moved to the Chicago area in 1965 and lived in Chicago Ridge, Park Forest, and Flossmoor.  In 2005, he and his wife, Sue, moved to the Shorewood Glen community in Shorewood, IL.

He loved playing golf and bocce ball with friends, and watching sports (especially The Ohio State Buckeyes).  He enjoyed listening to jazz and big band music, traveling, and teasing and joking with everyone. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and friends.  He was a gentle and loving man who was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.

Ed is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Sue (Yerian) Salamandyk Eltzroth; daughters and sons-in-law, Marcia (Michael) Lahr of New Lenox, IL and Amy (Scott) Stoefen of Bartlett, IL; grandchildren, Matthew ‘Madi’ Lahr, Luke Stoefen, Mitchell Lahr, and Megan Lahr; step-children, Cindy Salamandyk, Kristin Salamandyk (AJ Adams) and Tim Salamandyk (Jeff Bledsoe); brother, Thomas (Mary Kay) Eltzroth; three nieces and one nephew; and many close friends.

Ed is preceded in death by his late wife, Edra (Duffy) Eltzroth; son, Mark Eltzroth; granddaughter, Lindsey Stoefen; and brother, Daniel Eltzroth.

His family is sincerely grateful to his devoted care-giver, Susan Olmos, and the wonderful staff at Lightways Joliet Hospice who helped to provide exceptional care and bring him comfort.
