Obituary of Wallace Sr. and Janet Shilkus

On December 25, 1955 Janet Calbri and Wallace exchanged vows promising to love, honor and cherish until “death do us part.”  After nearly 66 years of a wonderful marriage, the good Lord fittingly called them home a mere eight hours apart, this past Sunday evening and early Monday morning.

The Shilkus’s resided in Northbrook, IL for many years, where they raised their family.

Surviving are Leslee (Rick) Erwin, Wallace “Chip” (Nancy) Shilkus, Jr., Heidi O’Laughlin (Robert Fornango) and Gordon Shilkus (partner Barbara Freire); grandchildren, Brad (Cara) Erwin, Matt (Lauren) Erwin, Breann (Nathan) Schmid; Danielle Shilkus, Wallace Shilkus III and Molly O’Laughlin; great-grandchildren, Avery, Evan, Alexandra, Everett, Madison and Nolan.  Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Preceded in death by Janet’s parents, Novella and Lauterio “Thomas” Calbri; Wallace’s parents, Carrie and Anthony Shilkus; Janet’s brother, Richard Calbri and all of Wally’s siblings.

After raising their family and retiring, Wally a Police Officer for the city of Northbrook and Janet a Secretary at Maple Junior High, they relocated to sunny Ft. Myers, Florida.  They returned to Illinois in 1996, settling in Joliet, IL to be near family.

The Shilkus family would like to invite all relatives and friends to attend a Memorial Mass honoring the lives of Janet and Wallace on Monday, October 4, 2021 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Jude, 2212 W. McDonough St. in Joliet. Visitation will begin at the Church Monday morning, from 9:00 a.m. until Mass begins.  Facemasks will be observed.  Interment for Janet and Wallace will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. Military honors for Wallace, a U.S. Marine Corp Veteran, will also be accorded.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in their name to St. Jude’s Children Hospital would be appreciated.
