Obituary of Thomas J. Marusak

Thomas J. Marusak, of Shorewood, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at the age of 65. Thomas was born in Joliet on September 27, 1955, the son of the late Thomas and Helen (Zelinka) Marusak.

Thomas grew up in Joliet and graduated Joliet Township High School. He served time in the U.S. Air Force and was a helicopter mechanic.

At the age of 21, in 1976, he became employed at Mobil Oil Corporation and was there for 38 years. Throughout the years, he worked various shifts to support his family and made many great lifelong friends.

He married Laurie Gergacz,and the are the proud parents of his children, Kate and Mark Marusak. He is also survived by his four sisters, Sue (Al) Singer, Kathie (the late Dan) Hone, Marilyn (the late Kurt) Gall, and Marie (Darren) Sackman. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, Valarie (Pat) Carroll, Eric (Jen) Gall, Angela and Lauren Gall, Matt and Zach Sackman, Adam (Melissa) and Erica Singer, Beth (Matt) Harper, Mike (Ambur), Dan (Megan) and John (Megan) Hone.

Thomas loved drag racing, building cars, and watching his son, Mark, and his friend, Dave Ancel, race on the weekends at the racetrack. He enjoyed working on projects around the house and always kept himself busy. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Thomas would always lend a hand and help his friends and family when needed. He had a great sense of humor and was enjoyable to be around.

Visitation for Tom will be held Sunday, October 3, 2021 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of services at 3:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet.  Interment will be Monday, at 1:00 p.m., in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
