Obituary of Edward L. Kreis
Edward Lee Kreis, age 75, a longtime Joliet resident, passed away late Tuesday evening October 5, 2021 at his Shorewood home, surrounded by family.
He was born December 14, 1945 in DuQuoin, IL to the late John and Dorothy Kreis (nee Gremmels). Beloved husband and best friend of 55 years to Arline Kreis (nee Stolk); loving dad to Jeff (Jan) Kreis, the late Scott Kreis and Jenny (Todd) Holt; fond brother to the late Wes (Sherry) Kreis, Rick (Sharon) Kreis, Carol (Gary) Wallace and Bob (Linda) Kreis; adored Papa to Trent (Nancy) Kreis, Kaela (Raphael) Laurito; Katie, Marshall and Holli Holt and step-grandchildren Jonathan, Grace, Mark, and Matthew Vanderwater.
A graduate of Thornridge High School in Dolton, IL. Ed received a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Illinois State University and a Master’s in Education from Northern Illinois University. He served Joliet as a teacher for over 35 years at Hufford and Dirksen Junior High Schools where he expanded the minds of countless students. Even after retiring, he continued to help within District 86 by serving on the Foundation committee.
Ed loved his God, his family and his community. He shared time with his sons and other young men as a Scout leader. He was actively involved at Maple Lawn Christian Church and Grace Pointe Church in Plainfield. He led his family in faith and all kinds of fun activities, including boating, NASCAR, hunting and cherishing the company of friends and family. In his “spare” time, he beautified homes as a talented painter, told endless jokes and stories, and was always ready to lend a hand at any given moment.
He will be remembered fondly as a wonderful husband, dad, papa, brother, and friend. As well as a great man of faith, and an energetic, enthusiastic soul.
Visitation for Ed Kreis will be held at Grace Pointe Church, 14210 U.S. 30 (near 143rd St) in Plainfield, IL on Saturday, October 16, 2021, 10:00 a.m. until the time the Funeral Service begins at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date.
