Orville E. Elza

Orville E. Elza, passed away at the age of 74, on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Amita St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. Orville was born on February 14, 1947, the son of the late William Elza and Hazel Eichhorst.  Born and raised in Downers Grove, he was a graduate of Downers Grove South High School. Orville was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, having served as a Master Crew Chief. 

Orville was one of the good guys who had a heart of gold.  He always put his family and friends first and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.    He had a love for planes.  Orville was mechanically inclined and loved working on his cars.  He was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him.  

Orville is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Margaret (nee Contos) Elza; his grandchildren, Erick (Tina) Oomens, Meghan Oomens, and Kerriann Oomens; great-grandchildren, Damien, Sandra, Daniel, and Kieleb Oomens; and his brother, Donald (Diane) Elza.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He is preceded by his two daughters, Sandra Oomens and Heather Elza; his parents; one brother, Robert Elza; and his sister, Karen Wietting.

A Memorial Service for Orville E. Elza will be held at 12:00 noon, on Sunday, December 12, 2021, at Christ Mission Church, 22811 S. Cedar Rd., Manhattan, IL. Interment will take place at a later date at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors held under the auspices of the United States Air Force and Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery Memorial Squad.
