Sylvia Barajas

Age 75, of Joliet, passed away December 7, 2021 at Amita St. Joseph Medical Center, Joliet. 

She was born October 28, 1946 in Joliet, to the late Secundino and Mary Barajas.  Sylvia was raised in Lockport and was a graduate of Providence High School.  She worked for Sanford Corp before becoming a Courtesy Clerk for Food For Less, where she was employed for 17 years.  Sylvia also was a volunteer for the Rialto Theatre.

Sylvia had a passion for reading books and crocheting.  She loved to spend time and going to bookstores and pizza dates with her niece, Nikki, and great-niece, Harper.  She enjoyed going to Bingo with her cousin, Becca and her son in-law, Randy. She loved living at Solstice and enjoyed being a part of the community there.

She is survived by her daughter, Raquel (Randy) Melendez of Joliet; step-granddaughter, Randi Lynn Melendez; her grand-puppies, Stevie, Malcom, Mimi and BunBun Melendez ; brother, Ralph (Linda) Barajas of Morris; sisters, Cindy (Mike Murphy) Barajas of Naperville, and Gina Barajas of Lockport; sister-in-law, Joette Barajas of Troy, IL; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends including the Laabs family. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; baby brother, Tommy Barajas; brother, Bob Barajas and sister, Rosemarie Styx.

Visitation for Sylvia Barajas will be held Thursday, December 9, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until the Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet. Interment will be private.
