Obituary of Norbert L. Zielinski
Norbert L. Zielinski, age 100, a lifelong Joliet, Illinois resident, passed away peacefully, Saturday, December 11, 2021 at River Crossing of Joliet.
He was born March 24, 1921 in Joliet, to the late John and Martha Zielinski. He attended Holy Cross Grade School and graduated from the former DeLaSalle (Joliet Catholic) High School with the Class of 1939. A United States WWII Army Veteran, Norb was the recipient of two bronze stars and the European Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon. He was a longtime member of VFW Cantigny Post #367.
Known for his quick wit and engaging personality, Norb enjoyed and lived life to the fullest. He and his band, "Mr. Zee", played many venues in this area over the years. He also owned Mr. Zee's Shoppe, a retail outlet for musical instruments in downtown Joliet, where you could also take music lessons from area professionals. Norb also sold Oldsmobiles when he was younger, and in later years worked for Joliet Township.
He is survived by his sister, Bernadine Smith as well as three generations of nieces and nephews.
Norb is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years, Rosemary (nee Elwood) Zielinski (2018); his parents; and two brothers, LaVerne Zielinski and Leonard Zielinski.
The family of Norb Zielinski would like to thank dear friend Mary Ann, neighbors, Arlene and Tim as well as the staff of Vitas Hospice for their wonderful care and kindness shown Norb.
Visitation for Norbert will be held Friday, December 17, 2021 from 9:00 a.m., until prayers at 10:15 a.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home 3200 Black Rd. (at Essington Rd.) Joliet. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will take place after Mass at Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in his name to Vitas Hospice 2175 Oneida St. Ste. 110, Joliet, IL 60435 would be appreciated.
