Obituary of Kathryn Ann Augsburg

Kathryn Ann Augsburg
(nee Siegel)

Kathryn Ann Augsburg, age 78, of Joliet, beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2021, after a brief sickness, with her loving husband by her side. Born on November 11, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Margaret Edith (Dano) Siegel. She attended the one-room Jones Elementary Schoolhouse in Joliet, was in the first 8th grade graduating class at St. Mary Immaculate in Plainfield, graduated from St. Francis Academy in Joliet, and completed beauty school in Joliet as well.

Kathy (as she was most often called) married her husband Bill in 1961. As a farmer's wife, she helped with the business of farming and raised three daughters.  They lived first next door to Bill's parents in Naperville, then in Plattville, IL, then returning to the farmhouse where she grew up in rural Joliet. Once the nest was empty, they moved to a home in Shorewood. Her love for family and friends was evident in everything she did, and her dedication to her parents, especially her mother, was unending.

Kathy loved to sew and craft and shared her creations with so many strangers and friends, making dresses for children in Africa, Haiti, and the Philippines; pillowcases and stockings for the troops; lap quilts for nursing home residents; baby quilts for those in need; and much more. She also shared material with various groups, including the sewing group at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Channahon, IL and St. John Lutheran Church in Plainfield, IL. She enjoyed time spent in Florida and when her girls were younger, countless RV trips to Florida and other destinations around the country.

Kathy was a supporter of the 4-H program, Camp Shaw-waw-nas-see where she and her daughters and grandsons all spent time, and volunteered in the Home Economics building at Sandwich Fair for decades. She was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Minooka, IL.

Kathy is survived by her husband of 60 years, Bill; her three daughters, Debora (Dick Allan) Needham, Alice (Rick) Herchenbach, and Linda Augsburg; four grandsons, Cameron (Dixie Salerno) and John (Cheyenne Chavez) Needham, David and Matthew Aschenbrenner; three siblings, Mary Jane (the late Howard Sr.) Huntley, Burt (Carol) Siegel, and Don Jr. (Sandy) Siegel.  Numerous beloved in-laws, nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
