Patricia Stercic

Obituary of Patricia Kay Stercic

Patricia Kay Stercic, age 74, late of Channahon, and a former resident of Oak Lawn for 30 years, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, December 27, 2021 at Rush University Medical Center following a very brief illness.

Born November 13, 1947 in Chicago, to the late Vernon and Pearl (Gramenga) Real, she grew up on the southwest side of Chicago and was a graduate of Calumet High School.  Patti enjoyed working for Cubs Foods for many years as a cashier and clerk.

A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Patricia valued family.  Her mother and aunt lived in her home where she raised her family, and her children remember how it was common for family and friends who were alone on holidays or throughout the year to be welcomed into her home.

Bowling was a favorite pastime for much of her life and formed the basis for good times and many lifelong friendships.  That was until she became a grandmother, and then her favorite thing was time spent with her grandchildren and being an active and involved part of their lives.  Along the way she also found time to enjoy the Chicago Cubs.

She met and married the love of her life, John A. “Jack” Stercic, and they recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.  He survives, along with her four loving children, Tom (Laura) Garvey of Naperville, Larry (Lydia) Garvey of Shorewood, Traci (Tom) Barrett of Chicago, and Jill (Greg) Stercic-Kuntz of Morris; seven adoring grandchildren, Amanda, Jacob, Joel, Meghan, Kaitlin, Kaylee and Courtney; one brother, Daniel Real; a nephew, Dan; her niece and goddaughter, Kelly; Jack’s siblings, Bill Stercic, Rick (Stacey Nofftz-Stercic) Stercic, and Patricia Stercic, and their children; and a sister-in-law, Rita Mitchell.

A Memorial Service for Patricia Stercic will be held Monday, January 3, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet, with visitation to follow until 4:00 p.m.  Interment will be private.
