I was a classmate of Kevin's (SFA) and met him during "Partners In Learning" at JCHS when the girls moved to Joliet Catholic for 2 weeks during Jubilation. What I remember most was that he was just genuinely nice to me. He was friendly and funny and always spoke to me in the halls. After PIL ended for the year, we continued to be friends. After high school I worked at Joliet Travel and his dad, John, came in to the office with some regularity and I always kept up with what Junior was doing through his dad.
Later on in years, I took on the task of the Class of '81 "keeper of the contacts". I organize our class reunions (with other classmates) every 5 years. I also keep a class email list for contact purposes. When Kevin's mom passed away I reached out to him so that I could send out the info to our class. We communicated on and off via FB.
I was completely shocked to see that he had passed. Our 40th class reunion was October 16th. I reached out to him (via email and FB) in May to let him know. He didn't respond back. It's so very sad that we had our reunion just days before he passed away. It's heartbreaking to lose a 58yr old classmate. I sent his obituary out to our class. I've received multiple emails from classmates who were so sad to get the info. Thoughts and prayers go out to his kids.

I was a classmate of Kevin's at JCHS and didn't meet him until high school. I can truly say a nice guy I've never met - Kevin ALWAYS had a smile on his face, and kindness in his heart. Losing any classmate is hard, this one especially so for me. Kevin always had the right thing to say, a positive outlook, and the most contagious laugh I've ever heard. We never hung out and I'm sad for that. But I always had the feeling he was 100% connected to me when we spoke - you got the genuine guy and he was really listening. Godspeed Kevin Kopech, the stars will shine a bit brighter now.
