Obituary of Ranelle Carlson

Ranelle Carlson, age 85, of Joliet, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at HarborChase of Plainfield with her loving daughters by her side.

Born October 12, 1936 in Herrin, IL, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Mabel (Wiggins) Grasty.  She married the love of her life, Norman Lee Carlson, and they enjoyed 64 years of marriage until his passing October 4, 2018.

Ranelle was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, who also enjoyed a successful 40 year career in real estate as a realtor.

Ranelle and Norm led an active and exciting life outside of their careers which included camping, snow skiing, skydiving, and traveling throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada.  She was especially proud to have hiked the Grand Canyon four times during her lifetime.  She will be remembered as someone who knew how to have fun, was fun to be around, and who accomplished a lot in her life.

Ranelle is the loving mother of Lynda Sue Lucas, the late Daniel Carlson, Teri Carlson and Norman L. (Mary Beth) Carlson, Jr.; and the proud grandmother of Nate, Evan and Sam Carlson.  She is also survived by a brother, William (the late Shirley) Grasty; a sister, Leann (Alex) Bettenhausen; two nephews, Todd and Craig Grasty; and her best friend of 55 years, Sharon Thomas.

A Memorial Service for Ranelle Carlson will be held Monday, January 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., at the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 Black Road, Joliet, where family and friends are invited to gather from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.  Cremation rites have been accorded and interment will follow in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.  A Luncheon will follow the interment at Al's Steakhouse.
