Obituary of Robert William Gimpel
Robert “Bob” William Gimpel
Robert William Gimpel, passed away at the age of 75, on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Willow Falls in Crest Hill, surrounded by the love of his family. Robert was born on July 16, 1946, the son of the late Robert H. and Ruth (nee Bartelt) Gimpel. Bob was a lifelong Joliet resident and graduated from Joliet Central High School. He went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from Illinois State University. Bob is a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Vietnam War. He has been decorated with a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Army Commendation Medal.
Bob was a longtime parishioner of the Church of St. Jude in Joliet and was a member of South Wilmington Sportsman’s Club. He retired from the Will County Health Department after nearly 30 dedicated years as a Health Inspector. In his encore career, he enjoyed making dream homes a reality for families as a Real Estate agent.
Bob was a true outdoors man who enjoyed everything that went along with taking in the beauty of nature. He loved camping, hiking, fishing, working in the garden, and doing all of this with his family. He was also an avid reader. The best title Bob ever received was that of “Grandpa”, as his time spent with his grandchildren is what he truly cherished.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Paulette (nee Viano) Gimpel; his daughters, Jennifer (Charles) Johnson and Julie (Brian) Brewer; grandchildren, Grace, Cameron, Emma, and Cooper; five siblings, Christopher, (Shirley) Gimpel, Thomas (Marcia) Gimpel, Mary (Phil) Krall, Joan (Bob) Todorovich, and Sue (Tom) Cecola; and his fur babies, Ivy, Lucy, Laney, and Hattie. Numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws also survive.
The family would like to thank the staff of Willow Falls and Transitions Hospice for the love and care shown to Bob and the entire family.
