Obituary of Betty L. Colman
Betty L. Colman, age 94, of Joliet passed away peacefully on Monday, January 10, 2022. Betty was born on January 24, 1927, the daughter of the late Jack and Margarite (nee Herman) Ritchey. Born in Joliet, she lived in Lockport, Crest Hill, and Shorewood during her lifetime. The matriarch of the family Betty was the ultimate homemaker. Christmas was her favorite time of year, making ornaments and decorating and taking pride in her beautiful trees over the years. Her family now treasures the many ornaments she made them for their own trees. She also enjoyed making crafts to sell at seasonal craft fairs with her daughters. Betty was also called by her nickname “Betty Boop” by many friends and acquaintances.
Betty is survived by her children, Leanne (Frank) Kloss, Robert (Karen) Colman, Linda (Bill) Burns, and Lynette (Ray) Krippel; her grandchildren, Michael (Kristin) Howk, Tracy (Ryan) Spruill, Lorianne Kloss, Alison (Russ) Gegenheimer, Megan (Brad) Homerding, Billy (Stephanie) Burns, Sean (Liza) Burns, Kelly (Andrew) Worrall and Dr. Jaynee (Chris) Pendergast; and their respective children, Kathryn and Rebecca Howk, Everly and Yeager Spruill, Emilia and Colman (Cole) Gegenheimer, Wyatt Homerding, Reese and Sammy Burns, Jacob, and Olivia Worrall and Elizabeth and Lucy Pendergast; and her friend and neighbor, Elda Caruso.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry C. (Tippy) Colman (1992); grandson, Michael Howk; her parents; sister, Kathy (Sherwood) Arling; brother, Jimmy Sherwood; and niece, Cindy (Arling) Peet.
A Celebration of Life for Betty L. Colman will be held at a later date. As it was Betty’s wish, cremation rights have been accorded. Inurnment will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
