Irene Provancal
Always a kind, generous, and devout wife, mother, and grandmother, Irene Provancal, age 91, of Morris, passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at her home surrounded by the love of her family. Irene was born July 14, 1930, in LaGrange, IL, the daughter of the late Fred and Mary Petges. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Catholic Grade School and Lockport Township High School. On June 16, 1956, she married the love of her life, James Provancal at St. Dennis Catholic Church in Lockport. After her children had grown, she worked as a secretary at an insurance agency. She also gave of her time to We Care and as a volunteer at Morris Hospital. Irene was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Morris, working with the CCW and as a Teen Youth Ministry leader. Irene enjoyed playing Euchre, growing African Violets, and tending to her birds and squirrels. She especially loved cooking and baking for her family, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survived by her children, Steve (Laurie) Provancal of Elmhurst, IL, Jeanne (Rich) Solitare of Dallas, TX, Kathy (Lee) Warner of McCalla, AL and Sue Lock of Morris; her grandchildren, Laura, Maria, Matthew, Becca, Jackie, Ellen, J.T., Jim, Anna, and Michael; step-grandson Hayden; great-grandchildren, Scarlett, J.J. and Laurali; sister-in-law Mary Alice (Charles) Denault; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Provancal; her parents, infant son, Michael; granddaughter, Jennifer; brother Charles Petges; and sister Marcella Schmidt.
Irene was especially thankful for the daily loving care and support given by her daughter, Sue for both James and her over the past several years.
Visitation for Irene Provancal will be Sunday, January 23, 2022, from 3:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 1201 W. Route 6 (at Deerpath Dr.), Morris. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 24, 2022, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 600 E. Jackson Street, Morris. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Morris. Memorials may be made in her name to Immaculate Conception School or Lightways Hospice.
